CITIZEN SPOTLIGHT: Frannie Janzen

Greetings, everyone! Here we are poised on the brink of a brand new year, one filled with wonderful possibilities. I'm just sure that 2014 holds amazing happenings for all of the citizens of our fine town. And to start the year off with a bang, this month our spotlight is on one of the most popular people in Snowberry Creek, our very own Frannie Janzen, owner of the Creek Café! Just to give her a break from her busy restaurant, we're across the street at Something's Brewing and enjoying a couple of Bridey Roke's finest cupcakes and a cup of her dark roast coffee.

Welcome, Frannie! Thank you for being here today. Can you tell us how long you've been living here in Snowberry Creek?

I can, but I won't. A lady doesn't much like talking about any topic that might give away her age. Let's just say that I've been here long enough to put down some mighty deep roots.

Okay, that's fair. What made you decide to open the Creek Café?

Well, I'd been waitressing and working as a short-order cook in a bunch of different restaurants since I left high school. Some had cheap food, and some had good food, but not many had both. I decided that I wanted to offer people good, home-style cooking at a price that won't break the bank.

My own personal downfall at your restaurant is the peach pie. I just can't resist it. What are the other popular items on your menu?

Well, on the dinner menu, the Creek Burger is the hot item, but my meatloaf comes in a close second. And when it comes to pie, we sell out almost every day. It brings me a lot of satisfaction to see my friends and neighbors enjoying my cooking.

Well, we all appreciate the time and effort you put into the food you serve us, Frannie. For sure, my son loves it whenever I tell him that's where we're headed for dinner. And as a parent of an athlete, I also appreciate the way you support all of the kids' sports programs here in town. Thank you for that, and again, for taking the time to meet with me today.

Until next month,
